Something really neat happened about six months back: we were nominated for a blogging award. Being new to the blogging community, I had never heard of the Sunshine Blogger Award, but it’s pretty cool concept and a great way to check out new blogs. Here are the rules of the award:
SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD RULES:
- Thank blogger(s) who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.
- Answer the 11 questions provided.
- Nominate additional bloggers to receive the award.
- List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.
So, first off, a huge thank you to Rachel for nominating our blog. Her sadiewolfblog is very well written and covers just about everything, from spirituality to tuk tuks. Rachel puts it all out there and that takes courage—I admire that. Thanks again for the nomination, Rachel!
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
Why did you start blogging?
It all started in the summer of 2017, when Kiley and I moved to London from the US. We started Andiamo Bambino! as a way to share our experiences with family and friends back home as we lived abroad and travelled around. Basically, it’s a very infrequent and wordy “proof of life,” as my mom would say.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
My favorite thing is the positive feedback that we receive from folks back home. Between moving abroad, travelling, and living on a boat, we are doing a lot of things that people wish they could. Multiple people have told us that they are living vicariously through us via the blog and our Instagram account.
What is your favorite way to relax?
I love to get out and visit new sites and explore new areas. London has so many important and fascinating things to experience, I’m just trying to make the most of the opportunity while we’re here. Also, living on a boat that we have to move every couple of weeks means that we always have a new neighborhood to check out.
What inspires / motivates you?
That is a very loaded question. I guess it depends what I am trying to accomplish. At a high level, I would say that I am motivated by engagement. Engaging with someone and discussing ideas, debating approaches, and getting feedback are all ways to get me moving.
If you could do anything right now, would it be to go to someone or to go somewhere, and why?
Another difficult one, but I’d have to say “go to someone.” Living abroad, we are always missing family. We’re lucky to live at a time with social media, so we can see all the exciting things happening back home, but we definitely wish that we could be there to experience them firsthand.
What is your favorite music?
The ‘Summer Hits’ playlist on Spotify is killing it right now. Whenever we are cruising on the canal, we flip it on and just jam. For those of you who know Kiley, you know the magic of those dance moves!
Top 3 Favorite Bloggers?
- Gone with the Wynns. They’re more vloggers than bloggers, but it’s definitely our go-to YouTube addiction.
- Cruising the Cut. Same deal. #2 on the YouTube list.
- Nomadic Matt. This guy created a travel empire by seeing the world. He also has a “take the leap” mentality that I connect with.
Where are you from?
Kiley and I were both born in Michigan, USA. She is from the city of Livonia, I from the township of Waterford. We also lived in the Washington DC area for several years and most recently, Indianapolis, Indiana for two years.
What is your biggest passion?
Depends on the day of the week. Okay, not really—but close. Right now, it’s writing. I’m trying to find time to publish more professional content, do the blog, and try some new things, but I’m loving it.
What are you most excited for in 2018?
For the next couple of months, I’m really looking forward to cruising the boat as far out of London as we can. The weather this summer has been gorgeous and Kiley’s school schedule is light, so it’s the perfect chance to get as close as possible to the authentic English boating experience.
What is your dream job?
Easy one, professional golfer. Or maybe just retiree who golfs all day. The point is, I could spend every minute of every day on a golf course and not get bored. I just love it.
FOR THE SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD, I NOMINATE:
Birds, trains, and history… I can dig it. He spells “favorite” wrong, but that’s okay.
Between hiking, travelling, photography, and business, Ariel has a lot going on. She shares it with the world and we’re all the better for it.
My friend from back home bravely and openly shares her experiences with anxiety and offers tips on how to get through the tougher times.
Kate and Dan are living out of their camper van as they tour around Australia for one year. I like the caption about emptying the cassette for the first time—it will trouble you how routine that becomes. Good luck, you two!
In her blog, Tara takes us through her experiences with fitness, food, and travel. I especially like her destination posts; a ton of useful trip information and some nice pictures to boot.
Congrats everyone! It’s your turn to follow the rules listed above and keep the inspiration going!
